WALKIN'

Here are a few great videos for you to enjoy:

The first one is a robot walking like a human. Uh, WOW.

And here is my great friend Joe Merideth teaching a class at Columbia College Chicago on the mechanics of a walk.

And finally, here is Joe's key test of his walk cycle.

BJ Thanks for posting the walk demo from Joes Class. He really solidified what Willames talks about in his book. I hope Joe does more of these demos from his class. There very helpfull.

Thanks BJ. That was absolutely helpful. Is it possible for you to shoot some of your animations while you draw them? Curious to know how you work. Thanks anyway.

Hey man
just stumbled upon your blog... incredible stuff dude.
Really inspiring work.
I watched the 'Shaker Brothers' short, and it was the most fun I've had watching animation in a long time.
It looks like you guys really had fun making that. Awesome stuff.

Thanks so much for posting all of this.

This is a very individual walk that has a lot of style.

However, there's a basic problem with it that seems to be endemic in many of the walks animated today.

The right and left feet have to be touching the ground at two different levels. The front foot has to be slightly lower than than the rear. This is one of the basic tenets of an animated walk and has to be followed.

This character has both feet touching the ground on the same line.
